What are the computer system requirements for using CamsNetwork?

Operating System

You can use CamsNetwork with the following operating systems:
Microsoft Windows 98
Microsoft Windows ME
Microsoft Windows 2000
Microsoft Windows XP
Macintosh OS X

Internet Connection

Using a DSL or cable connection ensures clear, quick video streaming. Recommended download and upload speed: at least 100 Kbps Preferred download and upload speed: over 200 Kbps

Can I use a dial-up or Satellite internet connection?

You can use a dial-up or Satellite internet connection to chat with hosts, but note that a slow connection may delay the video feed. To improve video streaming, please follow the instructions below.
Make sure that your modem is not occupied with any other program:

Close all other browser windows while Video Chatting

Close all programs that use the internet, such as IM programs (Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, AIM, etc.), and make sure they are disabled (not active) in your system tray.

Free up memory by closing all other programs that may be running in the background. Check your system tray (bottom right-hand corner of the screen, next to the clock) to make sure only the bare minimum is running on your computer during a Video Chat.

How do I start Video Chatting?

How do I start Video Chatting using Internet Explorer?

1. Log in to your member page

2. Choose a category and then a host to chat with Click the blue Video Chat Now button

3. In the host's waiting room, click Start Video Chat

4. You may be asked to either Allow or Deny the Adobe Flash Player settings. Click Allow.

5. You may also be asked to download an ActiveX component. Please ensure that you click Yes to download the ActiveX control.

How do I start Video Chatting using Mozilla Firefox?

1. Go to http://amateurcams.com/firefoxinstall.asp

2. In the page that opens, click the Install Now button

3. Click the Edit Options button in the message bar to open the "Allowed Sites" window (the web site address, CamsNetwork.com, will be pre-entered)

4. Click the Allow button to add the website to the "Allowed Sites" list

I can't get into a Host's chat room. What do I do?

It says to click on a pop-up window but I'm not getting a pop-up window

Please make sure you have the minimum requirements necessary to Video Chat

Enabling ActiveX, Java and cookies
Please make sure that all the ActiveX options, Java features and cookies are enabled by following the instructions for your browser.

 

Why don't I see a clear video stream?

I can go into a Host's chat room, but the camera keeps freezing

Check whether the problem is on the host's end by trying to chat with another host. If the image freezes with every host you try to chat with, go on to the next step.

Open the Tools menu

Select Internet Options

Choose the General tab
Click the Delete Cookies button
Click OK in the Delete Cookies dialog box
Click the Delete Files button
Mark the Delete all offline content box
Click OK in the Delete Files dialog box
Click the Clear History button
Click Yes in the dialog box that appears

I can't text-chat with hosts, what do I do?

Check whether the problem is on the host's end by trying to chat with another host. If you cannot text chat with any host, go on to the next step.
If you have no problem Video Chatting but are having trouble using the text chat feature and have a firewall or router installed, please make sure your firewall / router allows outbound TCP to destination port 8000-8050 to connect to the servers (TCP any port -->> port 8000-8050)
If you are using a high-speed internet connection, follow the steps below for your browser
If you are using Internet Explorer 6
Close all your browser windows and then open a NEW browser window

Open the Tools menu

Select Internet Options

Choose the General tab
Click the Delete Cookies button
Click OK in the Delete Cookies dialog box

How do I use my own webcam when Video Chatting with the Hosts?

If you have a webcam and Hosts are unable to see you, follow the steps below:

Disconnect and reconnect your webcam, close the browser window, reopen the browser and try again
Make sure your webcam works properly on other platforms such as Instant Messenger programs
Make sure the camera driver is available and not occupied by another application
Make sure you have selected the correct driver from the list of camera drivers:

Right-click on the camera window (where your own camera feed should show up)

Choose Settings

Click on the camera tab

Pick a different camera driver from the dropdown menu
Upgrade DirectX to DirectX 9.0 at http://www.microsoft.com/directx
Upgrade the camera driver to the latest driver available on the camera manufacturer's website
Upgrade Windows with latest patches at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
